The goal is sustained and structured promotion of the import of certain products from selected partner countries – in compliance with high quality, social and environment standards. The IPD brings together the interests of German importers with those of exporters in emerging growth markets.
By promoting market access for small and medium enterprises from preselected partner countries to the European market, we advocate the creation of new jobs and enhanced national export capacities. Meanwhile, European companies are able to optimise their import processes from these markets.
The development organisation of the German industry that operates globally is responsible for setting up and operating the Import Promotion Desk (IPD).
Its most important cooperation partner is the Federation of German Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services (Bundesverband Großhandel, Außenhandel, Dienstleistungen e.V.; BGA). With over 125,000 members, the BGA is one of the leading trade associations in Germany. Its task at the IPD is establishing contacts between the German importing sector and the businesses, trade organisations and export promotion organisations in our partner countries.
The IPD is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development [Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ)].
With the IPD, the BMZ makes a vital contribution to building sustainable economic structures in the selected partner countries. By providing business competence and promoting competitiveness, the IPD supports the partner countries in creating jobs and raising income. Economic interests and development policy goals are thus linked in a way that benefits all those concerned.
